Glass Half Full: Perry Fewell

Micheal Eisen states on Giants.com Offseason Report that new Giants DC Perry Fewell might not neccessarily be "married" to a Tampa 2 system. Here are a few GOOD things Fewell accomplished in Buffalo: Team forced 33 takeaways in '09 which was 5th in NFL. 2nd in the league in interceptions. Allowed only 14 touchdown passes each season in '08 and '09. Giants allowed 31 this year alone. So, secondary play hopefully will improve... I think anyone's major concern would be run stopping- we'll have to see what defense he goes with. Thoughts? Do you find this valuable?

Giants.com had an interview with Perry fewell posted today. Among several topics, Fewell mentioned that he is still evaluating personnel before he decides what scheme he will use, and doesn't belive that the Giants need an total overhaul of players. He goes on to mention that most NFL defenses dont use a strict pattern of formation. I like this, as I think thats what Spags did... sometimes they looked like a 4-3, a cover 2, a 3-4...etc. It confuses the offense when they don't know whats coming. Anyway, the guy seems well-spoken and intelligent. The one constant I hear about him is that he preaches accountability- and has a short fuse for repetitve mistakes. He sounds like a coach that teaches "ball-hawking" and turnovers... another aggressive style that I like to see. After hearing him talk a bit, I'm looking forward to see what he has to offer. He talks about "playing fast", which is another thing the Giants seemed to lack last year. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Could also be a few "sound bites" for the Giants internet, & beat reporter; Micheal Eisen. If any of what he sys IS true, then we should give this new DC some slack, and wait to see what happens at the end of next year- 2010.
