"

It all starts with defense though as Bill Sheridan was able to prove this year. Pretty much the same personel with a couple of additions.
The only difference was the D cooridinator and look at what happened to the PROUD defense of the last few years!

I said even in my rant that Rivers has more physical tools. It was alot to give up. Never read that the Giants would have taken Roethlisberger over Rivers. Interesting. With Rivers, with me it's just his attitude and demeanor that aggravates me. He acts like a punk sometimes... taunting the crowd, or the opposing quarterback like a 6th grader. Just don't like him. As a rookie , Roethlisberger went to a team that had EVERYTHING in place except a QB. You couldnt ask for a better situation as a rookie QB. I'd rather have him than Rivers though. Anyways, I just want the Giants to do something BOLD. I dont want to stand pat and acquire more Tier 2 talent. Probably would have to give up too much for another 1st rounder. Dont want them to bother if they arent going to trade high enough to get that Berry kid, because I think he could make a difference. I'm becoming more fearful of Philips arthritic knee. If it becomes career ending... its a huge hole to fill. Like I said, a really bad break for a 1st rounder that was turning out to be a great pick... an organizational setback. We can sit there around pick 15 and take the best LB left, and see whats there at safety in the mid second. If we do that, thaen we'd better get out the checkbook and sign TWO big free agents. A linebacker AND a safety. And not a guy like freakin Danny Clark or CC Brown. All the guys I put on that list in an earlier post are in thier mid twenties and Pro-Bowl caliber. But their own teams are going to try and sign them. It will take a BIG payday to get them to leave. Plus, they wont be "True Blue" Giants out of the draft. Thats another reason why I'd like to do it in the Draft. As far as the Giants winning the Superbowl that year if they had Rivers, its impossible to know that. Would the Giants still have won Superbowl XXV if Simms didnt get hurt and Hostetler stayed on the sideline? Impossible to know. Everything changes. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Id like to see ESPN Sportsnation do a poll of all Giants fans and see what the % of Eli/ Anti-Eli fans are. Even within my own group of friends it seems like I'm constantly defending him. lol 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I know it seems that I hate Eli but the reality is I don't. Looking at the trade from an objective point of view, I don't think anyone could say Ben or Rivers for Manning and three other players was a good trade for NYG.....in fairness to Manning even though I don't like ANY player saying I won't play for a franchise....will have to have a career no less successful than Joe Montana to even suggest the trade was a good one and that my friend is not happening,[more likely Ben will win 4 SB's than Eli, imo] but make no mistake, the fans like me that are hard on Easy Eli are thinking about him thru the eyes of "the trade". Throwing a boat load of money at him just compounds the problem more in fan's eyes. Can you really blame us?The Giants put him in a position with that trade and recent pay day that demands as close to perfection from a qb, as one can get.....and he does not possess that kind of abilty. He is a solid starting qb that still seeks consistancy after 6 full seasons. QB's like Marino, Elway, Favre and the older Manning would have a difficult time living up to that standard. Making matters even tougher, NYG rid themselves of future HOF, Kurt Warner in 2004, to make it "easy" for Eli to start immediately. Imagine Kurt the last 6 seasons with our line, RB's and current crop of receivers? Oy vay!!! The unreasonable expectations placed upon Eli imo, are both his fault for scorning another pro team and NYG management for "mortgaging the farm" in the toughest market in the country to select a qb that did not show that much more ability than Philip or Ben in college.....you will not pull one over on NYG fans......ain't happening!

Well, all-in-all... That draft will go down as the biggest QB draft of this generation. All 3 players are good... they have three rings and counting. Maybe Philips gets one, maybe he ends up the Dan Marino of the 2004 Draft. Who knows? Again...why we love sports, right? The only thing I can figure why Accorsi wanted Manning over the other guys was because of his family pedigree, and was a safer bet to be a class-act and and never embarrass the franchise. Don't forget too that if it wasnt for Blastico Burress, we might have hoisted another Lombardi Trophy last year (we should have beaten the Eagles anyway). Then it would have been: Manning-2/ Roethliberger-1 /Rivers-0. But, as I said... can't assume anything. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Do you find this valuable?

"As much as I like Brandon Jacobs, the Giants need a RB like Ahamaad Bradshaw who is able to run the ball 25+ times/game
without breaking down. I admit thats asking a LOT! Joe Morris did it, so did David Megget and Tiki Barber! Take a look at guys like Barry Sanders and Emmit Smith. Not big and still able to do amazing things with the ball in hand!

I agree, gmen11. RB is not a top priority. What does make me wonder is why no one but me seems to think that replacing Rich Seubert needs to be done this year. If jump-starting the running game is that important, and everyone agrees that it is, then an upgrade at the LG position is imperative. Do you find this valuable?

We definitely are going to need to start getting younger on the O-line. I did however read something somewhere that Seubert was playing with a bad shoulder all year, which would really mess up his blocking. But, he's getting old and that kind of thing will happen more and more. Maybe not going crazy and trading multiple draft picks (like I ranted earlier) IS the cooler-headed thing to do, so that we can add some more youth at other positions. That being said, I still think we will need to sign two marquee defensive players if we go that route. Do you find this valuable?

I'm starting to lean towards McClain from (ALA) over Spikes. I keep reading that Spikes' production has gone down every year, and people questioning his speed. Guess we'll see at the combine. One guy says McClain has good speed, the next says his lateral quickness is average. Same for Spikes. I read that McClain is a vocal leader though. Thats GOOD. He looks like he's a little thicker in the legs/hips, more like an NFL middle backer. Do you find this valuable?

"jherl> see A glance @ 2010 #3. You're both right on imo."
What I said is that Seubert IMO was showing his age. Speculation exists that Beatty will be ready to move into starting lineup by next season. Beatty is a natural LT, this would enable Diehl to move either back to RT for Mackenzie. Mack's too injured, too often, these days for my liking. If Mackenzie is back, then Diehl would move back to the Guard position, the position he played out of college. Beatty does need to hit the weights during the off-season.

First we find a DC who knows how to utilise the talent we have. Second we find a SC who can keep our guys in top physical shape, or more resistent to injuries due to poor physical conditioning. Thirdly we "open up the offense" by letting Eli get the plays to run quicker, use his "on-the-field" two minute offense more. Fourth, find a top-notch MLB if AP can't return. Fifth, get Secondary help and dump the under-performers. Last, in my opinion, hold onto the young talent, and draft players that will develope into future Giants. Do you find this valuable?

Comcast Sports Net Chicago has a report saying that Kevin Gilbride is a candidate for the Bears OC position. Gilbride's agent denies the rumor. Do you find this valuable?

Can't say it would break my heart if Gilbride leaves. Also, I agree with gmen11, I dont think we'll see much action from the Giants personnel-wise until they hire a DC. So they should get the ball rolling... fast. I also think the Giants should get a move on soon after that signing free- agents so they know what to draft. IMO, it'd be easier to fill holes with the draft than to fill holes in free agency, because I think you will be more limited to who you can sign at needed positions than who you can draft. 1  out of 1 found this valuable.
