The New York Giants @ the Half-way Point....Mid-Season Report Card

Okay sports fans; Giants Diehards....It's time to grade out the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, our Beloved G-Men. We've seen 8 games so far and we all know we're 5-3 at this point of the season. This is the thread to discuss your opinions about what you've seen from the Giants. Another posts suggest 3 main questions:1.- Eli's play. 2.-Our young reciever corp. 3.-The LB's and secondary.
I would like to comment on all the aspects above and include the running game, special teams, and Coaching. I feel confident in the grades most will give both the O-Line/D-Line, yet I want to hear more from everyone else. It's gonna be tough to discuss your thoughts in one post of 2000 words so if you need to, use 2 or 3 consectutive postings so we can all follow your thought patterns more closely.

Okay so, I guess I started the post and now I gotta write my answers. here goes:
1.-Eli's been great at times, good at others, and terrible some times. He's improving, and I think the injury is more serious then they're letting on.... Grade B+
2.-The draft brought us so much talent in the receiving corp these last 2-3 years, that the picks are beginning to ripen now is no secret. SSmith=Pro-Bowl. MManningham=Hi-Lite reel player. Hixon=Solid NFL Talent, Crazy Good Player. Nicks=Future NFL Star. Barden=needs to play more/Make more plays. SMoss=Bye-Bye....... Grade:A-
3.- O-Line. Solid play all season until KM went out. Sacks allowed creeping up. Few early season penalities. Could play better in running game a small bit-open bigger holes/lanes for BJ and AB. With Beatty in there these last few games......Grade: B-
4.-RB's. Well...they're both getting the ball, and neither is hurt. But no 100 yd'ers for BJ, and AB has come close twice. But I don't think they're getting enough help, and everyone is stacking 8 and a Safety ot corner up to slow the RG down. Looked great early season, yet seemed to peter-off the last few games........ Grade B+
5.-D-Line. On paper it seems these guys will dominate every game. On paper. We had a good opening stretch, and so far only 10.5 sacks. Tuck got roughed up in Big D, but hes a gamer, and he's in there. They played well early against the run, but it seems as if , again, lately, they're just a step behind on making the plays. Giving up too much yardage to the run, and not getting the sacks......Grade B-

6.-LB's. AP needs to step up and Demonstrate why he is the Defensive Leader. His play has been solid, but its clear on some plays he's lost a step. Boley signed for BIG money. Where is he?? To much running across the middle by opposing recievers, and runs up the gut. This group is supposed to be a strength for us; yet it seems as if it's becoming a question mark. I need to see the rookie Sintim, and I like Blackburns, and Kehls play alot. Clark seems to have dropped off a bit, and the LB's aren't getting the sacks either....Grade B-
7.-Secondary. With both Phillips and Ross out it's tough to judge this group as a whole unit. I like how Thomas has stepped up, and Corey is a potential Pro-Bowler as well. The 2 Johnsons' need to play more consistent, and Rouse hasn't shown me much-if anything. Dockery hes been erratic, but hurt. CCBrown has been exposed. Overall, they weren't giving up the big plays early on, but lately; starting with the NO game, its been a green light for everyone. Not Good. The Blitz has been ineffective from the corners, and safetys as well......Grade C+
8.- ST's. Here's the one area we've seemed to play well on, and even excell. No PR/KR for TD's, no major miscues like TO's, effective protection on punts/punt returns (tho no TD's of our own either!), and we have the one trick play that worked out for us. Clark, Kehl, and Chase have excelled here. Moss has been dissappointing, and Hixon has looked avg.....Grade A-

9.- Coaching Here's where we will all have our differences. I, myself have been watching this situtation (See the Sheridan is Awful posts)-and frankly,I am constantly voting for Coach Coughlin on ESPN, I gotta wonder if he's listening or watching the same games. If the "communication" issues were surfacing on the D side of the ball, where was he to straighten that out? Sheridan has my vote, but Spags is gone and we need to let Sheridan find his "own voice". Coach Coughlin needs to straighten out any dissent fast tho. He him self has been Great this season. He's won the challenges, when hes thrown the flag, and hes' managed the games and clock excellently. Gilbride needs to call more agressive plays, yet I see him taking shots down the field, and learning to trust the rookie WR's as we go. He's calling some questionable plays on some downs that make me shake my head, but the O side hasn't been executing as we would all like them to, so in a way, they're forcing his hand. Mike Waufle, and Pat Flaherty have coached the 2 lines well. Sullivan is doing fantastic with the recievers. Peter Giunta, and David Merritt could be helping the 2 Johnsons' and Thomas more. Jim Herrmann has been effective, yet AP is our D-Leader so its like having a coach on the field. He did well with the Jets, so I think he's doing great, but could place the guys more effectively, and let the LB's Blitz more. Lastly, Jerry Palmieri has kept the G-Men in shape. They don't look winded or run-down at the end of the games, and they seem to have avoided the kinda injuries that plague teams that aren't "in shape" like hammies, and pulls. ....Grade A- Do you find this valuable?

1. Eli...Good Eli, A-. Bad Eli, F! Injury or not, unexcusable play! Overall, C. 2. WRer's. Get a B, Smith, A+ and Moss, F- skew the curve, Moss is a wasted roster spot, IMO. Barden doing Where's Waldo imitation! I would like to see TE's used more efficiently. 3. O-line. B-. Not playing consistently, running game good but below expectations and line shares the blame. 4. RB's. C!, BJ is not meeting my expectations and he's got too many excuses has too why he isn't. Bradshaw, who actually has a legit excuse is playing better. Running Game has a whole, RB's and O-line, C+. 5. D-line. D stands for disappointing! Stats ammassed during JV schedule are average at best for supposed best in football, on paper! C! 6. LBers. The group that I thought in the preseason would be the weak links on the defense, has passed that baton to the secondary, C+. D-line/injuries having effect on LBer's. Pierce needs to step up or step out! He gets a C- all to his own. 7. Secondary. Corner play is good all things considered. Safety play is suspect at best. C.C.(cant cover)Brown should be arrested for stealing money! Injury plagued (A.Ross will probably die from this hamstring injury,my god man!), C-! 8. Special Teams. B-. sure we havent allowed any TD's, but what about field position? Not good enough! 9. Coachs, B-. Especially on defense, need to do better! 10. Team. C. Passing grade!
