Next up/San Diego Chargers.

The Giants host the San Diego Chargers this week. The Giants hope to end their 3 game losing streak. The Giants are favored by 4 points. The Chargers are coming off a win over the Oakland Raiders. We all know what effects the Oakland Raiders had on this Giants team, lets hope same thing happens to the Chargers and the Giants can right themselves heading into the bye week. The Giants and their fans do not want a 5-4 record and four game losing streak to linger through bye week. Some help may be coming defensively has DT/DE Chris Canty and LB Michael Boley are both scheduled to practice this week. Still no word on CB Aaron Ross who has'nt practiced/played at all since season started. Questions abound in Giants land, Can a back to basics philosophy translate too a win on sunday? Will a sense of urgency permeate the Giants locker room and bring about a win? Can the "communication" problems that were mentioned by several defensive players after last weeks loss, get resolved? Can the Giants eliminate the mistakes and turnovers that have plagued them in the last 3 weeks? Can Eli snap out of his funk? Can the Giants rely on the running game to pace the offense and take some pressure off Eli? If the Giants have any hope of a playoff appearance, winning football has to return! This is the week! Go Giants!

Inside the numbers article by Micheal Eisen on Giants.com. Giants are only team ranked in top five in both offense and defense at the halfway mark. 5-3 record matches same 1/2 way mark has Coach Coughlins first season has Giants Coach, 2004. At the 1/2 way mark the defense is allowing 22.9 yards a game which is the most of any Coughlin Coached Giants team. Rushing yard average per game is 20 yards less than last year. Stats from all six seasons of Coach Coughlin era available. Pretty similar mostly.

Interesting notes. Thanks for your post. But as I have stated in my posts, and you have reiterated in yours, we need wins. A balanced team comes in the Meadowlands this week, and the G-Men need a win. If "back-to-basics" is what it takes, then by God let's do that. The game again, hinges upon the D-Line to get after Rivers. Eli's got to find his rhythem, and BJ and AB need to get the ball across the chains with regularity. I think the O-Line played one of its worst games in 2-3 years, and the injury to KM is telling. Overall we graded out D's and F's in the local sports pages, and we need to play "our" game. The chumps in the NFL aren't on our sched any more this year. A loss here and we can kiss the NFC title good-bye as Dallas will gain back the half game lead we "have" over them, (until they come to NJ). Philly too. But they haven't played each other yet, so we need favors from each of them. It'll be one of those stretch runs where a team makes it in only "with help". I'ld rather control my own destiny. This AFC home game only counts for a win if we win it. A loss here is a huge nail in the Giants season. I like the line, but I think were getting the 3 pts as a home fav, and 1 pt for the power ranking. We should be able to take advantage of SD's suspect secondary, and LB corp. If we keep Sproles under 100, and limit Rivers big plays, we can put a W in the W column.

Practice this week has been described has upbeat! Antonio Pierce say's the defense is fast becoming the laughing stock of the NFL and this week they need to step up and play Giants defense! Coach Coughlin said that this is the 53 man team and free agency is'nt the answer. Coach stressed getting the little things right, fundamentals, communication. Only two players missed practice on Wed., Ahmad Bradshaw and Aaron Ross. Bradshaw has been nursing a broken bone in foot and has a precaution has not practiced on Wed. for weeks. Bradshaw will practice on Thurs. and play on Sunday.

Bring your A game New York Football Giants, especially you Eli!:http://history.giants.com/video/8031410/Chargers+vs.+Giants+Preview The Chargers will pound the Giants secondary no doubt with all their tall receivers. It's going to take a total team effort to go toe-to-toe with SD at this point in the season after playing the Saints, Cards and Eagles. It would be nice to be the team that jumps out quickly with some Big Mo in one of Giant Stadium's last regular season games. Can Special Teams please all play a good, 4 quarter game too. Giant fans are ready coming off a Yankee World Series victory and want to cheer Big Blue to a meaningful and season-changing win. Giants 27 - Chargers 24. Do you find this valuable? |

Coach Coughlin called out the leaders of team to take more of a role. Just a reminder to Giants fans that the Giants record coming off a bye week is horrendous. The Giants for some reason are notorious for losing those games. If the Giants don't win this week it may very well be a long while before a Giant win! I feel better about the outcome of this game being on a positive note than in recent weeks. Coach Coughlin is calling this a one game season, I agree, this week or bust!

Interview in N.Y. Star Ledger, Brandon Jacobs says he's "overdue" for a 100 yard rushing game. A strong performance rushing wise would surely help the offensive woes and take some of the load off of Eli. "Overdue", however is a major understatement!

Changes on defensive side of ball for Giants. Aaron Rouse, whom the Giants acquired off waivers from Green Bay on Sept.24, will start at safety in place of C.C.Brown. Rouse started first two games of season for Packers. LB Michael Boley returns to the lineup and DT/DE Chris Canty will make Giants debut on sunday.
