MATCHUPS

Remember how excited you were when you heard the words, "With their 1st pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, the NY Giants select TE Jeremy Shockey from the University of Miami". I know I was. 8 years later, the surfer looking, high energy, mad-man will present a serious mismatch problem for Big Blue D. Where is Michael Boley when you need him? Shockey is currently the leading receiver in Nawlens high octane offense and his speed creates a major problem for us. Blackburn is a beast, and is physical enough to play with JS, however, he does not possess the foot speed necessary to "chase" him in coverage. Danny Clark may be faster, but still not quick enough imo. We will need to jam, jam, jam him off the LOS all night and secondary must tackle well after a reception if we are to "contain" him at all. Ya think Shockey will be up for this game, just a little bit? Of course, if Tuck, Kiwi, Osi, "Batman"(Cofield) & Robbins and Rocky VII are in Drew's facemask all night, it will be a "breeze" now won't it?. NYG, NYG!!!

I was very excited the day the Giants drafted him, and then his performance in the HOF game cemented the deal. Reminded me of Mark Bavaro. I was disheartened and more than a little upset about the treatment that Shockey received after breaking his leg. Would he still be a Giant if he hadn't got injured and had participated in the Super Bowl victory? We'll never know! I understand why he had to go, and really he was in a no win situation had he stayed in N.Y.. Whether you liked his attitude, arrogance, the same bright lights and media that built the monster, pushed him out of town. I wished him the best under my breath and hung up my #80 jersey for the last time when he left, the truth is I still root for him and I still like his game. Michael Strahan once said of Shockey's heart and love of the game, " give me 51 other guys like him and we'd win the Super Bowl every year." I agree gmen that Shockey will be a major problem against the Giants LBers. He'll be up for this game and should be! Truth is, if and when he scores, I'll smile, applaud and then go back to cheering the Giants on to victory, dispite it all.

I tend to believe him, although I've already stated a bias. Where was he during the parade and the ceremony? I also agree with Shockey's assessment that if Wellington Mara had been alive he would not have been traded. Two players visited Wellington Mara at his bedside before he died, per his request, Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey.

den, I never knew about the death bed requests. Mara obviously had a genuine affection for them. Interesting not only as a historic fact but also because both of those players were very vocal about Eli's lack of leadership and ability to utilize the incredible amount of talent he had at his disposal. Hindsight is always 20-20, but Barber and Shockey are/were intense players, expecting the same excellence from their teammates and always willing to do WHATEVER it took to win a championship.I believe their assessment of Eli then was absolutely spot on.(though they were wrong about going public with it) IF they were guilty of one other thing, it is the same thing alot of fans, INCLUDING me were guilty of. Patience! I cannot speak for those two incredibly blessed, gifted and perhaps future HOF'ers, but I intially felt that Eli was highly overrated and the spoiled benefactor of his sirname, who did not have either the physical or mental game to play in the hot spotlights of NY. I was wrong, they were wrong. Guarantee you though, that if you asked either Tiki or Jeremy if they'd like to be on "Eli's offense" at the current time, they'd both nod in the affirmative. At least Shockey can sport a ring to show his contributions to a Championship team. Tiki though very deserving of the treasured piece of jewelry, will never have that luxury..........hopefully his induction into that famous Canton Hall will be more than ample compensation for that unfortunate fate.

GMEN11 I was very excited myself , until all the "incidents" during his memorable (sometimes for the wrong reasons) stay here lol. You state he is the " leading receiver in Nawlens high octane offense ..." That distinction belongs to Devery Henderson followed by Marques Colston unless of course you feel actual receptions (18 ) for Shockey W/ 162 yds and two td's outweigh Hendersons (14) W/ 235 yds and 1 td or Colstens (17 ) for 228 and 3 td's . Shockey is a great tight end , no doubt ! However , he is often times hurt and quite frankly is his own worst enemy . I'll take Boss with his 14.3 yd average and TEAM first mentality over the unpredictability of JS . I do agree with what you are saying as far as matchups...It is time for Osi , Tuck and Kiwi to step up !! This week in a huge game ,and start to get more pressure on the QB. Though 9 sacks between them is nothing to sneeze at I would like to see them them turn it up a notch this week ! GO GIANTS !! Do you find this valuable? |

In June 2008, one month before being traded to the Saints in a video interview Jeremy Shockey said "If a team trades me,I promise you i will make them pay! If I ever get a chance to play against a team that traded me, it's not going to be a pretty sight! Today Jeremy Shockey has promised to have his best game of the season this week, when he gets revenge on the Giants. Video can be seen though a link on ProFootballTalk.com.

Jeremy hasn't met Osi, Justin, Antonio, and others yet, on the other side let's see how he handles it. By the way maybe now, keeping his mouth shut, might make him part of the team.
