Phillips out for season
Sep 25 2009, 11:37 AM EDT
Kenny Philips will be out for the season after a knee injury he suffered during the Cowboys game. C.C. Brown (who will likely fill in for Phillips) and Michael Johnson, the Giants' healthy safeties, will be joined by Aaron Rouse, who was claimed on waivers from Green Bay Thursday. Any thoughts on the Giants already battered secondary and how they will stack up against the Bucs Do you find this valuable? |

M.D. thankfully, we are not facing a powerful aerial attack in Tampa team without Bryant and 5 star QB. Similarly, we should be able to run and throw the ball, move the chains and control the t.o.p.. If Simtin returns, we should still be able to get some pressure, (even w/o Tuck) on QB and help battered secondary. I need to see Rouse before making assessment. but I am more concerned this week if we'll be able to stop a Cadillac and a RB named Ward who will be out to prove something Sunday. Our defense has been devestated by injuries thus far, so unlike most recent NYG teams of the past, the offense and Eli will have to carry us to victory for second week in a row. Go Eli.....Big Blue!

Watching Phillips perform at his combine workout you can see what a stud he is:http://history.giants.com/video/7585665/Kenny+Phillips+Combine Phillips was a monster against Dallas and accomplished it on a bum knee. Best wishes Kenny, get well. TB has perhaps the worst starting QB in the NFL. Phillips would have had another All-Pro game. The subs move up and the Giants press on. Do you find this valuable? |

Totally bummed about Kenny the 'Cane. Good thing we have another 'Cane the secondary. Big comeback year for anyone connected to the 'Canes. :)Bottom line - I am completely bummed about the secondary. I did not think Terrell Thomas was strong as we have seen him before last week - hopefully he'll pick it up again. Corey, Bruce and Michael are going to have to pick up a heck of a lot of slack and Dockery and Ross need to hustle up and get well! Do you find this valuable? |

According to NY Post, NYG Safety Kenny Phillips has been diagnosed with patellofemoral arthritis. Coincidentally, I had surgery for the same condition this past June. I am not an MD, however, in a nut shell, the injury is serious because there is a "bone on bone" condition that exists. An arthritic condition for a 47 yr old is not that unusual but in such a young athlete as the former Hurricane is ominous. Phillips is only 22. Doctor informed me that often times the arthritis spreads after invasive surgery; even arthroscopic. More recently I was informed that a series of Synvisc injections can effectively relieve symptoms, albeit temporarily. Synvisc is typically administered as a series of three injections into the knee joint, each injection spaced about one week apart. Synvisc has been shown to help alleviate arthritis symptoms for 6 months or longer, and delay the need for knee replacement surgery. Let's hope whatever intervention Kenny chooses is the correct one for HIS long term health. In any event, another serious blow dealt to Big Blue but a great opportunity for next in line to step in and contribute! Get well soon Mr. Phillips, our prayers are with you.
