Giants/Cowboys week 2

Second game of season is on Sunday night featuring longtime NFC rivals the Dallas Cowboys who host the N.Y.Giants. Cowboys are favored by 3. Cowboys debut their brand new, pride of JeRRy, stadium. Cowboys hold 55-36-2 record against Giants. Cowboys 31-19 at home. Both teams are coming off wins in week #1. Giants Defense, especially in secondary, features majority of injury list. Giants players who missed some or all of practice this week include: S's Johnson and Phillips, DL Canty, CB's Ross and Dockery, LBers Boley and Sintim, OT Koets, WR Nicks and RB Ware. Nicks and Ware were injured in last weeks game against the Redskins, and will not play. CB Ross is still nursing hamsting injury that is holdover from preseason, he is also going to be out. S's Johnson and Phillips are listed has questionable has well as CB Dockery. LBers Boley and Sintim were limited in practice and listed has questionable. DL Canty will miss his return to Dallas and will not play. The injuries to the secondary could be huge. Dallas QB Tony Romo has given the Giants fits in the past and a depleted Giants secondary could prove a factor in stopping Dallas's passing game. Let's hope the Giants O-line will open some holes for Jacobs and Bradshaw. A strong running game would limit Romo's opportunities too exploit secondary weakness's. The Giants D-line will need to bring A game and apply pressure to Romo. Opening of new stadium in my opinion puts pressure squarely on Cowboys. Back to back NFC East opponents for Giants. Biggest test of season thus far. Do you find this valuable?

Well said Den!:

The Giants will go along way towards winning if the Defense tackles well and can contain the Cowboys TE's which is no easy thing to do especially with the banged up secondary mentioned above. No Canty means someone else needs to step up and stuff the run like ex-Seahawk Rocky Bernard. Giant LBer's have a big responsibility keeping Cowboy's speedy RB Felix Jones in check. I suspect that on Offense the Giants RB's will have the opportunity to catch passes from Eli out of the backfield all night long and will have to make Cowboy defenders miss in space, or simply run them over! Giant WR's, please focus on catching the ball, it's your job, any YAC's (Yards After Catch) is gravy but remember what Hines Ward did in week one. Special Teams will be a large part of this game and not because of the Big Screen. Giants will win this important NFC East game (every game is big in the NFL) because they will stay together, execute the game plan and not get stupid penalties for 4 quarters. Go Giants!

Personally, I think the NFL must have it in for the Giants scheduling us for the last game at Texas Stadium and then the first contest at the new place. There will be close to 100,000 fans screaming like crazy (what's the over/under on false starts?) and it's a home divisional game for the Cowboys which are always difficult to win under the best of conditions. I worry about our banged up secondary and if we fail to generate a heavy pass rush we will be in a lot of trouble. I think we need Kenny Phillips to play at least as much as Dockery.

I think the oddsmakers have it about right--Giants as slight underdogs. I am hoping Boley can make a contribution because I certainly worry about Felix Jones matched against our LBs. If we do win it we might be able to really get a great start on the year because the next few contests should see us favored.

I like seeing NYG installed as a road dog; Cowgirls r favored by a field goal and under the circumstances (new stadium and Giant injuries) should be favored. Again I say the 12th man will play big in the outcome of this game. Though only WEEK #2, I truly believe what happens during this 60 minutes, will have a tremendous effect on NFC East and our season in general. I agree with all of the things den posted. Our offense MUST play NYG football and move the chains and control the clock. Fair or not I am circling this game as TEST #1 for our highest paid QB and another step forward or backward in where his legacy belongs in Giant history when all is said and done.. With our secondary in shambles, the best we can hope for is a great game from front 7 and limit Dallas to less yards than Bucs gave up (472) and we will accomplish that, however, that will NOT be enough to come out with the W as it did in SB42. I go on record here as saying that if we win, Eli Manning will have to carry us to victory. That translates into a great 3rd down completion %, NO picks, fumbles or ill advised INTs under pressure. (throw ball away) and making Dallas pay every time they stack the LOS. No doubt in my mind, with all that crowd noise the cowboys will want to make life miserable for him as they did last contest (8 sacks). Eli will have to beat them deep once or twice also 4 our offense to nullify home field ad and their big play offense. IF IF IF the younger Manning can do these things and we control the clock, similar to the way we did vs. K-gun Bills in 1990, not only do we go 2-0 in division but Eli takes that step needed to be considered that quality QB that can be relied on to CARRY his team to victory in big games. IMO, we will not be able to run the ball effectively, if Eli does not get his respect early in the game. Mistakes will turn the deafening crowd noise into momentum that will bury Big Blue into the oil rich turf that made ol' Jed Clampett a millionaire. GO ELI/NYG Do you find this valuable?

Here are the starters for the 2009 Dallas Cowboys:

http://history.giants.com/video/7524072/Dallas+Cowboys+2010+Season

Brady James does not look very big as a LB in terms of being able to stop the run, pound that guy all game. Their O Line is considered aged and because speed kills, go after these guys for 4 quarters and wear them down. Keep the Cowboy's no-name WR corp no-namers. Eli was sacked 8 times in one game last year by Dallas, handling the Cowboys pressure is my key to this game. Manage the Cowboys pass rush and take advantage of their run blitz and the Giants will win, win, win!
