The Phil McConkey Giants story is an amazing part of Giants History!:http://history.giants.com/video/7388903/America%27s+Game+Moment%3A+1986+Giants This guy was a one-man wreaking crew in Super Bowl XXI. Amazing story how Phil came back to the Giants and caught a TD pass from Phil Simms off that deflection by TE Mark Bavaro! Served 4 yrs in the Navy before he signed with the Giants as a 27 yr old Rookie. Do you find this valuable? |

Well worth two clip boards and a tackling dummy. McConkey was actually a favorite of Parcell's. Before the Super Bowl game Parcell's called him in his office and showed him a map of the stadium. Pointed out which side and where most of Giant fans would be seated. He gave him a towel and told him to run out ahead of the team in the direction of the Giants fan's with specific instructions to get the Big Blue fan's worked up. "I want it to feel like a home game!" Parcell's told McConkey. He came running out waving his arms and that towel, jumping up and down the whole length of the sidelines. Settled on the Giants side standing on a bench waving that towel. I will remember that and the catch off Bavaro deflection always. The rest is history. Absolutely loved Phil McConkey! Too this day one of my favorite players.
