Training Camp for The N.Y.Giants opens today in Albany N.Y..All players scheduled to arrive today. With yesterdays signing of Hakeem Nicks every draft pick is signed and ready.Hopefully major injuries, especially among rookies, will be avoided. Some questions to address:Health status of DT's Robbins and Cofield who both missed OTA's,recovering from off-season surgery.Antonio Pierce's legal issues.Competitions at WR/LB and in the defensive secondary should be fun to watch.Who makes this team,Who does'nt?New DC Sheridan takes the reigns. How will Osi play after missing all of last season with a knee injury?Football is on the horizon!!!

The La Nina off the Left Coast has the temperatures in New York pretty dang mild this time o the year, that should help with preventing injuries due to HEAT!Den, u call it fun to watch the WR and DB competition, I call it ways to lose games in the NFL and the tight NFC East. With the Dime & Nickle packages, are the Giants talented, fast and deep enough at DB in 2009 to cover passing focused teams regardless of the pressure put up front? How much time will it take for Eli to be comfortable with all the Kids at WR? Special Teams is 1/3 of footbal so is this brittle Kicker someone that can be counted on all year long including the playoffs? Do the Giants have enough quality depth that can win a game if needed at the most important position in football, QB? To win another Super Bowl they will need players to set up in 2009, that's for sure! They will, go Giants!! Do you find this valuable? |

I'll go out further on that limb in saying this year's team has the potential/depth/talent to be one of the best we have ever fielded. On top of that we have all the motivation we need with the lousy last game we played and the poop that same team that beat us is dropping down. We have EVERYONE in training camp for the 1sr time in a long time and it looks like AP will be shown grace as early as 2mro....................all the pieces are in place. Gentleman/Ladies START YOUR ENGINES!

Camp opened with three players out of practice.LB Michael Boley(hip) and DT Fred Robbins(offseason knee surgery) were placed on the PUP list.DT Rocky Bernard(shoulder)NFI list.LB Boley is suspended for first game of season, how much work he'll see in training camp is still unclear due to his injury.Robbins and fellow DT Cofield missed OTA's,Cofield is in camp and practicing.DT Bernard was injured working out at home, was expected to be ready by open of camp.Bernard was an off-season acquisition so reps in camp would be a plus,no date on his return.

Sweet training camp update Den! I know Rocky's game, he will need motivation to stay productive and to get into playing shape. Playing with Tuck and Osi will at least get him single blocking at times which should give him opportunities to make plays when he's on the field. He's capable of playing hard every down but has not done so to this point in his career. Hope Boley can get 100% healthy and add his speed to the base defense should he earn a starting nod (expensive Special Teams and PT LB if not.) It's nice to have the kind of depth the Giants present and at training camp because practicing against the best helps make you the best. I bet the O and D line really get after it!

Depth all around - D, O, RBs, WRs, QB... So excited! Depth in the secondary even! Stinks that we are gonna have to say g-bye to someone we like. Reese had such solid things to say today - if you guy haven't heard the interview with Pat Kerwin and Tim Ryan, listen to it. He is so stellar. Regardless of position, he is all about keeping the best players all around on the team. Osi's interview - good one too, encouraging. Great attitude all around!

Special Guest WR's Coach is Keenan McCardell.Minority coaches initiative program. Some of you know that McCardell played for Coach Coughlin in Jacksonville.Veteran voice for our young WR's.He's concentrating more on the rookies but coaching them all.

and Jacksonville rocked in those times - McCardell was good. Love Coughlin's approach and how it's developed at this point. I am never getting off the Coughlin bandwagon.

FYI, dad went to G-Men camp today on a whim with his high school buddies (impressive in and of itself that he is doing HS reunions every year at 69 and was able to drag these to Giants Camp). Said the team looked solid for day 2. was impressed when he saw BJ warm up with the D, and was impressed at just how deep we are on this team! He also said the WRs looked good - and he liked some guy i honestly never heard of wearing #80 Derek Hagan (apparently had a good day). He thought Nicks and Barden showed a lot of promise, and he liked watching the O and D lines. That's all I got, but hey, at least he got to go. Pix when I see him in a couple weeks!

A, thanks to your Dad for the training camp report! Hagen played at ASU, I always thought he would be better as a Pro than he has been. He was buried on the Dolphins bench. Reminds me of Toomer as a mater of fact...

and one more small tidbit: i noticed on the highlights video on Giants.com that Tyree was really taking a big leadership role with the WRs - pumping them up during practice, etc... And yesterday, Peter King noted that Tyree is 'one of (his) favorite players in the NFL'. Jerry Reese does keep saying a lot of good stuff about Tyree. What can we do with him to keep him around as a player coach?

I don't see Tyree making this team.9 guys for 6 possible spots.Moss getting lots of work at slot position.Roble,You'll be happy to know that the secondary play up to this point has been solid.Reports are that new DC Sheridan wants a more aggressive/assertive secondary.Ross and Webster are clearly the starters but the competition for nickel slot is open and it seems everyone wants it,which is a great thing!

With several teams having season ending injuries, and the Giants with a depth of talent, how soon do other teams start inquiring about availability for certain players?Rumor has it Carolina has already spoken to Giants front office about the DT position.I have had this in the back of my head when the Giants signed Canty and Bernard that maybe, just maybe...Robbins is done. He's on last year of contract, not getting any younger, injured off and on last two seasons, especially last year when he finished with a knee and two broken hands, all of which needed off season surgery,he's on the PUP list now still recovering from knee surgery. Cofield is proven,Alford is ready and we added Canty and Bernard.Gut feeling he's(Robbins) not on opening day roster.

Pardon me Den? I would say locking into Eli for 6 years and $97 million ceratinly has something to do with loyalty. The Giants do things the right way. Back to camp. Not sure trading DT's is the right thing to do. With the way the Cowboys and Eagles run the ball, these guys will need to be deep to contril the line of scrimmage and win late in the season...Tyree is going to make the team, calling it now...Some camp video: http://history.giants.com/video/6977196/New+York+Giants+Training+Camp+at+the+University+at+Albany+8-04-09

Just trying to cut the arguement in half!Roble,Eli signing had very little to do with loyalty,At least the loyalty I'm talking about.Loyalty is not showing Phil Simms,Joe Montana,Jerry Rice,Emmitt Smith the door.Loyalty is not firing Tom Landry...Tyree doesn't make this team(catch and all).Had he not been on IR most of last season, might not have made team last year.We have too many DT's,Robbins is injured now can't do anything with him but the day he passes a physical...80 guys on roster, including injured,53 will make active roster! I hope I'm wrong and Tyree and Robbins make the team.Go look at names on roster and narrow list to 53.I see 35 definite,no doubt guys IMO.

Okay, that's it... I just gotta say it already - I've been putting up with this for months:)DEN: at the end of a sentence, when you put a '.' or a '?' or an '!', you are supposed to skip 2 spaces. In the middle of a sentence, when you put a ',' (comma) or a ';' (semicolon) or whatever, you are supposed to skip one space. Instead, you skip no spaces in between anything and you cram it all together into one, long, run-on... I'm just giving you ----, but my goodness man! It's like a long run-on sentence. :) Do you find this valuable? |
