1. RE: Worst #1 Draft Picks in Giant History

Well since QB Dave Brown was a supplemental draft pick he's in a class all by himself! We'll substitute in his place QB Lee Crosscup '59,My choice for #1! Adding to your list HB George Adams'85,TE Derek Brown'92.Most of the 60's could make this list except for DE Fred Dryer who made his way to the Ram's.

I'll go with a "Bunch" of nothing in Jarrod and a close second in waste with Derek Brown. Cedrick Jones was no stimulus package either! LOL

Cedric Jones I believe was legally blind in 1 eye. Good job George..draft a DE with one eye.Jarod Bunch was bad, but at least he had a 400-500 yd season under his belt. George Adams had all the talent in the world. Phil Simms once commented on how he thought Adams was going to be really good in that backfield. Lee Grosscup is a great look up. I believe he was later a NY Titan. Rocky Thompson is the "symbol" of Giant draft futility in the 70s. Derek Brown of Notre Dame is a nightmare all to itself. He was to replace Bavaro. Oh..and don't forget all those #1 & #2 picks we sqandered away trading for Fran Tarkenton & Craig Morton. At least we're not the Jets. LOL. Do you find this valuable? |

I won't count any #1 picks who never actually played for the Giants, because maybe their roster spots were taken by guys who contributed to the team. Of those who did play for the Giants, and always played badly, I'll agree to Thompson and Lewis. Hicks played well in his first year and badly in his second. Inconsistent Dave Brown actually had a number of good games. Other busts: Travis Tidwell (1950), Joe Heap (1955), Henry Moore (1956), Lou Cordileone (1960 - traded for Y.A. Tittle !!!), Joe Don Looney (1964), Francis Peay (maybe the worst of the lot - 1966), Jarrod Bunch (1991), Derek Brown (1992).

Did a little research and am going to toss out Giants 1st rd pick Tucker Frederickson, who in 1965 was the #1 overall pick. This was the same year Joe Namath and Dick Butkus got drafted. Not sure that is toppable and interesting that you all missed Tucker! :)

Roble did your abducters hijack your Giant-ness? Ivan Charles "Tucker" Frederickson may have suffered a career ending knee injury and not lived up to his # 1 overall draft status, and the incrdeible two way career he had @ Auburn, but one would not consider him a bum by any means. In his six short years he did have a Pro Bowl in his rookie year. Stop picking on retired Jints from my neck of the woods................and give us back the robe!!!! LOL

1st Pick Tucker Fredrickson was a good #1 pick. His devastating knee injury in 1966 wrecked what might have been a very good career. He was supposed to be the big cog in what was to become the "Baby Bulls". Tucker Fredrickson, Ernie Koy, & Chuck Mercien were young RBs that were to replace the legendary Gifford, Webster, & King. Unfortunate injuries and a bad defence kept this from becoming the next great generation of Giant football. All in all, Tucker was a smart pick that had an unlucky ending.

Hey kids!Roble told me this discussion was going on - and the 1st person that came to mond was Jarrod Bunch, who did virtually NOTHING. But them I looked him up and i was impressed to see he actually seems to have made something of himself. He's got quite the acting resume. Dave Brown - what a joke he was! Craig Morton - YUCK! Honestly, I don't even remember some of the folks you mentioned so they probably stank! Do you find this valuable? |

"Hey kids! "Dave Brown - what a joke he was! Craig Morton - YUCK!" Dave Brown wasn't a joke. He was inconsistent, playing well in some games and badly in others. Craig Morton was not drafted by the Giants, but was traded to them by Dallas. Do you find this valuable? |

alright, I had NO idea who Tucker was and thank you all for enlightening me about his wreaked knee, sorry to hear that. now I got drilled for my Giants Top Ten of All Time list because it was arbitrary and did not use facts behind the list to support it. who every you like is who i wanted to see in the list. with this question, just because he only played a short amount of time, that does not disqualify Mr. Frederickson as the being the ALL Time Worst #1 Draft Pick in Giants history. He was the #1 overall pick in 1965 and flopped imo. I also don't feel that Dave Brown is or was a joke, he has a Mother, family and many friends who say otherwise, thanks for trying to keep things positive jherling. agrred Do you find this valuable? |
