The most outrageous stories you got about connecting with the Giants
Apr 29 2009, 9:18 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 29 2009, 9:18 PM EDT
OKay kids: see if you can jive with this one. What are some of the funniest, most outrageous, slickest, or coolest stories you have stocked up about an encounter with the Giants?

Example: when I was something like 14 or 15 years old, I was a MAJOR Joe Morris fan. I used to have this poster of Little Joe on the door of my room, and I kept a Joe Morris card in my wallet for superstition during the games and good luck. One day, my dad was playing in a Jaycees basketball game against some of the Giants, including Joe, in my town. There was this little kid sitting behind Joe in the bleachers. I decided to pay the kid off $5.00 so I could sit there instead. I got to chatting with Joe and showed him my card; then a couple times I went up to Offense Defense Football Camp to pick up my brother and connected with Joe. In essense, we became friends. Joe ultimately ended up calling my brother and me when it was time for training camp for a few years, and invited us to come down as his special guests at Fairleigh Dickenson when they practiced there. Joe gave me protective warnings over the years about not falling for any of the guys on the team (cause they were sleezy 20-somethings), he got the '86 team to ALL sign a special plaque for my birthday (maybe it was my graduation), and he also invited my brother and me to sit at his table at LTs restaurant the night they did the Joe Morris retirement party. Special times. I am not really sure where Joe is now, but boy he made this kid feel pretty cool!

I bet there are some fun stories amongst us. Care to share?

It was an attempt at humor, have you ever seen the American Pie movies everything exciting happens at band camp.It was the only thing I could add to this topic as I dont lead the exciting lives that some do.In all the time I've been a Giants fan not only have I never met any players,I've never been to the stadium.I get my Giants on TV.Some weeks not at all depending on what network they are on.It was jeolousy and I apologize.Continue with your stories and I will live vicariously through you all.HAVE A NICE DAY! 0  out of 1 found this valuable. LOL - actually den, if you want to go to a game, I have a couple games to potentially sell, which I will sell you at face value if you felt like heading out to NJ to see one of the last games in the Meadowlands.

Here are the ones I have to potentially sell and I hope Roble doesn't get me in trouble because he started it: ;)

Pre-season: Other team Game time
--Monday, 8/17 Carolina 8:15 pm
--Saturday, 8/29 Jets 8:00 pm

Regular season:
--Sunday, 12/13 Philadelphia 8:20 pm (time subject to NFL change)
--Sunday, 12/27 Carolina 1:00 pm (time subject to NFL change)

And no offense taken - I know the band camp reference, but wasn't sure if you thought my post was lacking in it's 'manly manness'. :)

About a year ago I went to a sportscard show at the Westchester Center in White Plains, New York. A guy pulls into the parking space next to me and I see he has a New York City Police medallion on his dashboard, so I assume he is a policeman. He gets out wearing a Giants football cap and we are walking the length of the parking lot together so I strike up a conversation about looking for older Giants football programs or cards at this show, which is about 85% baseball stuff. I mention that my father played for the Giants years ago and how hard it is to find material from that era. He asked if my father was a big Giants fan, and I say he rooted more for the players against the officals - he hated seeing a good play get called back. That gets a good laugh. The walk is about five minutes and when we get inside he's waiting in line with me when a security guard comes over and says "Sean, you don't have to wait in line." I think that must be a perk of being a NYC policeman, but when I pay my money and get inside I see he's sitting at a table signing autographs - as a NY Giant. It was Sean Landeta. OKay - great set-up revmoran. Hang on one sec...

Den: where is your acceptance speech??? I have been wondering if you were going to do something!

Rev: Fun story! Your dad played for the Giants? When did he play? Okay, you set me up for another one perfectly! Sean's great! I'll make this sort of short. Back in those same days, similar to the Joe Morris days, I met Sean at Offense Defense when we went to pick up my brother. I was like 16 or 17 and naive as hell. My dad was there too with me. I had been chatting with Sean for a bit, and really and no clue. When we left, my dad let me know he was 'hitting on me' or something of that nature. SO, we get to the 2000 crummy Superbowl (the one we lost with the Rams). My parents went to New Orleans to the game, and somehow they ended up at dinner with Sean Landeta and Carl Banks. They were smart - they called me while they were at dinner. They put Carl on to chat, and then Sean on the phone (then with the Eagles). I had the opportunity to share this old story with Sean and he laughed with me - how fun! Good guy.

My dad played in the NFL from 1926 to 1933; he went to the Giants in December of 1928 and stayed with them for the next five seasons. I met a number of the old timers when I was a kid, but my most vivid memory is riding in the back seat of Bill Owen's car while he and my father sat up front. Bill had played and coached for the Giants in the 1930s and 1940s when his brother Steve was head coach, but he was much more of a cut-up than Steve. He kept taking his eyes off the road and looking at me in the back seat to tell me some story about my father all the while chewing on a big wad of tobacco and spitting into a coffee can on the front seat - and my father had a big cigar going and I'm torn between turning green from car sickness and laughing my head off. One more, although it's quite different and doesn't directly involve me - I was the local music store last month and the fellow behind the counter remembered that my father played for the Giants - and tells how his father was a WW II US Marine who fought on Iwo Jima and I said - I know where you're going - Jack Lummus, New York Giants 1941. Yes - his father met Jack Lummus in the Marines and they were friends and all his life growing up whenever the Giants were on TV he'd tell the story of how Jack Lummus died during the assault on Iwo Jima and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic bravery. Then he took me into the office and showed me a picture on the wall of his father standing on the summit of Mt. Suribachi with other Marines including Ira Hayes under the flag - taken probably minutes after the famous flag rasing photo - and a braclet made for his mother by Hayes out of scrap metal from a plane that had been shot down. After the war the Giants put plaques in the Polo Grounds to honor Lummus and Al Blozis, also killed in the war, but the plaques did not make it to the Meadowlands - it would be nice if something was done at the new stadium to remember their stories. Nice story Ali...you were a Lucky Girl. JM was a terrific Giant too. One of my most favorites.

Sean married my younger sisters girlfriend from High School. I met them both briefly on Long Island, years back. Sean is a terrific guy, and he will always be considered a Giant in my eyes.

See my other post about Honoring Giants...I too believe we could do more for the Hero's from the past.
