1. RE: Who are the NY Giants biggest football rival?

That's a tough question. Dallas would seem like the obvious choice because I believe these teams hate each other like the Yankees and Red Sox hate each other. But Philly wouldn't be a bad choice, either, if only due being 100 miles from each other. But we've played against Washington the most. I would still choose Dallas as our biggest rival. The Jets, to me, being in the AFC, are a rival to the hearts of the football fans of the New York Metropolitan area.

The Eagles sure brought it to the Giants on Sunday like they had a big ol' chip on their shoulder, kinda like the Phillies did in baseball this yr!! I bet the Sunday night game in Dallas this week will be awesome! Go Giants!! Where would you put the Pats in this mix and what about the Fins? rr 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Hands down the Eagles! They are the team I hate the most and I'm sure you Giants fans will all remember that the QB kneel down at the end of the game was invented because of Joe P's fumble of the hand off to Csonka against the Dick Vermeil led Eagles! Hermann Edwards returned it for a touchdown to give the Eagles the victory as the clock ran out. A whole new offensive formation was created to prevent that from happening again. Hands down, gotta be the Eagles. I recall a game in the 70s when Ron Johnson was running back for the G-men. They needed a win on Monday night (I think) vs. the Eagles to make the playoffs. They lost because Johnson fumbled late and the Eagles scored. Ughhh! How about the Randall Cunningham Gumby play against Carl Banks that cost the Giants an important game against the Buddy Ryan Eagles. Gotta be the Eagles! Long history, they know each other so well and I have a difficult time with the color Green as a result!

I went to the Hawks vs Philly game at the Qwest here in Seattle this season and the Eagles punished us. The Seahawks looked like a High School team that day and could not stop the TE and Kevin Curtis. McNabb will be tough to bring down. If the Giants give a Super Bowl effort on D and run the ball they will beat the Eagles!

Agreed. I think there will be a great difference in the Giants running game with B. Jacobs back in there and mostly healthy.

Come on you guys - I have to think about it this way: putting aside yesterday's horrible and heartbreaking loss, who would you rather have had that loss to if we had to lose: the Eagles, OR would it be the Dallas Cowboys??? It doesn't take me more than a second to know that it would have been even worse if it were Dallas. Except for Demarcus Ware (to whom I can stomach a few nice comments) pure hate there.

Sports Illustrated voted the Giants vs. Eagles as the 4th best NFL rivalry of all time. Even with Sunday's disappointing loss, we still own an 82-70-2 regular season advantage and we are now 2-2 all time in post season. Go Arizona Cardinals; beat those dirty birds! (see Brian "spear"-headed Dawkins)

And look at it from the other side - in 1933 the very first game the Eagles played was against the Giants - a Giants win at 54 - 0!

K - I have been thinking about this since so many of you think the Eagles. Here's what I'll give you - ack in the Buddy Ryan days with his slick schemes, the Randall Cunningham days with his ego - the Eagles were deplorable. Then came Michael Irvin (and I am a Hurricane at that). When Michael Irvin started shouting obnoxiousness at LT (THE 'LT') in his final few minutes of his final game (that we lost), it was the Cowboys that earned the right to be the most hated, and I haven't looked back.

Back in the days of Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor and the Tuna, the Giants most hated rival was unquestionably the Washington Redskins. The Giants beat the Redskins to get to Super Bowl XXI and lost to Washington the following season, ultimately leading to the Redskins Super Bowl XXII victory and Doug Williams MVP performance. Two classic coaches, Gibbs and Parcells, and two great traditions of winning, the annual Giants vs. Redskins games were heated contests that provided networks with incredible ratings opportunities. In fact the beginnings of the great 80's rivalry was kicked off by Lawrence Taylor's sack of Joe Theisman and of course his more than memmorable reaction to his handywork (which of course ended the quarterback's career). Does it get any better than that in terms of rivalry? Well, actually it does. The Redskins vs. Giants rivalry cooled down tremendously upon the purchase of the franchise by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. Joe Gibbs and Parcells both moved on and so did LT and Simms. Over the last twenty year the Giants have had periods of about 4 or 5 seasons where a non divisional opponent became a great rival. The San Francisco 49ers rivalry of the late 80's - early 90's or the Minnesota Vikings rivalry of the late 90's- early 00's both provided for great regular season matchups and very heated playoff games. The Cowboys Rivalry surfaced at times during that period but never took off really until this past season when the Giants lost two to Dallas during the regular year then beat the Cowboys in January. The most heated rivalry since around 1996 is without a doubt the Giants vs. Eagles. The Giants dominated the series til the second season of Donovan McNabb, winning 9 consecutive games ti ltheir monday night football matchup in 2000. The Giants lost the game 10-9. The two teams have been in Super Bowl contention nearly every year and with the likelihood of three games per year now, we can bet the rivalry will go on.

Good points Ziderj. Rivalries change as players, coaches change. But the most intense rivalries are always those within the division. The Eagles have always been in the division with the Giants. They have a VERY long history. There are signature moments in nearly every one of their games. How about Bednarik knocking out Gifford? What about the Picarcik fumble? Then there's the Randall Cunningham gumby play. The two cities are very close with fans easily traveling to each other's stadiums. And it's New York vs. Philadelphia. This is the Giants rivalry that has really stood the test of time, imo. So, no question, the Eagles are the Giants biggest, most intense, and historically oldest rival. I view it as akin to the Packers and Bears. No matter who is up and who is down, the Packers most intense and biggest rival is da Bears. Ditto Giants and Eagles!

If the Cowboys are indeed the NY Giants biggest rival, week 2 to open the new Dallas stadium on Sunday night football is as large as it gets in the NFL and this respectful Cowboys fan has something to say about it:http://history.giants.com/video/6828165/DALLAS+COWBOYS+WEEK+2+AGAINST+NY+GIANTS+PREVIEW Go Giants, pound the Skins week 1 and then be ready for this NFC East instant classic game! Beer and popcorn, any NFL fans staple food, lol! 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RR, have you no shame, going into all these nice folk's house with your mic in tow? Where do you find these people? So recently we've heard from a Cards fan and a Dallas fan; when can we expect your Broadstreet broadcast with an Eagirl's fan, or will you require a pass to enter a penitentary to do your interview? Lemme know, so I can start prayin for ya. LOL Two other teams besides our division rivals deserve a mention; that is the J-e-t-s Jets Jets and the team by the Bay, the SF 49'ers. We do not play them a heck of a lot, but we have had some hard hitting showdowns with them over the years. Just ask Joe Montana, I'm sure he still has the tattoos from Burt & Marshall! Nice work Roble;

It was always Eagles,Redskins,Cowboys until JErrY bought the boy's.Now it's Eagles,Cowboys,Redskins.They asked The LT what he thought when Parcell's took Cowboys Head Coach job..."At least it's not the Eagles!"Non Division rivals for me 49'ers,Vikings,Panthers.Bad history play-off wise with these teams!Pittsburgh and Cleveland just because of proximity.I don't want to hear the mouths from their fan's the next day.
