| STEVE OWEN'S BIO
| A great defensive star of the 1920s, played for the Giants from 1926-31, plus a one-game return in 1933. He captained the 1927 team that won the National Football League title and held its foes to a record-low total of 20 points.
Owen coached the Giants for 23 years. He was a co-coach with Benny Friedman in 1930, then assumed the full head coaching responsibility in 1931, a position he kept until 1953. Owens had a coaching record of 153-100-17, including eight divisional and two NFL title teams. Some of his coaching innovations include the A-formation offense, the umbrella defense and the two-platoon system.
Owen went to college at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. After a year coaching at his alma mater following his graduation in 1921, Owen joined the Kansas City Blues in 1924. Two years later, the team changed its name to Cowboys. With the Giants, Owens was a four-time All-NFL tackle.
