In 2004, the Giants introduced an alternate jersey to complement its already existing uniform. The alternate jersey is Giants red, with white numbers and nameplate. It is identical in style to the home blue jersey, only it is in red. It is not a throwback uniform, although the team did wear red jerseys and socks earlier in its history (the 1940’s).
Under the current NFL guidelines, the team has the option to wear whatever pant is currently a part of their uniform system. In 2004, the team wore the existing home pant (with the bold stripes), and in 2005 and 2006, wore the away uniform pant (with the thin stripes shown at right). The NFL clubs can wear their alternate jerseys two times in any given season.
