In the early years of the Giants the NFL rules were different - teams could play games against non-NFL teams as part of their regular scheudle. These were not considered exhibition games but they did not count towards the NFL championship. In 1925 each NFL team was obligated to play at least eight different NFL teams but it could play other non-league teams throughout the season. The Giants first game was against an non-NFL team, New Britain, Connecticut. The New York Times reported: New York Pro Eleven Takes Opening Game, Overwhelms Ducky Pond's New Britain Team by 26 to 0. This really should be considered the Giants first regular season game.
