The Giants have selected wide receiver Hakeem Nicks with their first-round choice in the 2009 NFL draft. Nicks, 6-1 and 210 pounds, started all 36 games in which he played at the University of North Carolina and caught 181 passes for 2,840 yards (a 15.7-yard average) and 21 touchdowns. In 2008, Nicks had 68 receptions for a career-high 1,222 yards, (an 18.0-yard average) and 12 touchdowns.
