Eli will join Phil Simms and yes Jeff Hostetler as the most beloved Giants QB's for winning the Super Bowl. But before I call Eli the best it would be nice if he could win a playoff game at home. His performances vs Carolina and Philadelphia were less then stellar. The loss to Philly was heart breaking because once Arizona beat Carolina the Giants bath to the Super Bowl should have been a cake walk.. There was no way Arizona was going to win in sub-zero temperatures. Eli is a lot like Plaxico.. When he's on he's great, when he's not you want to break a hole in your TV set. Best ever, maybe in the future but certainly not now.. Y.A. Tittle, Charlie Conerly, Fran Tarkenton, and Phil Simms are four names that come to mind when I think of best ever..

I read in today's Post and News that Eli is just taking snaps in practice today so he is ready for the Saints. The Giants say ELi's foot if ok but it makes you wonder why he is limited to just snaps. I understand that it is only one practice but I hope things go well for Eli on sunday. Remember he did not play much this past sunday.

I found these two pertinent question answers @Nola.com just now . It is part of a teleconference transcript with The Times - Picayune
How is your foot feeling?
"The foot's feeling good. I took most of the reps today, and I'm still trying to be smart with it and not overdo anything in practice and get the reps that I need. I'm not staying away from anything specific. Coach just wants to be smart with it."
Are you in pain with the foot injury, or is it more a threshold issue?
"No, I don't feel like I'm in pain. I feel like I can do everything. I can run the offense. I'm not limited in what I can and can't do."
ELI IS FINE EVERYBODY!!!

I do not get emotional often but this took me to a special place. There is something about a daughter and dad relationship that permeates through the hardened male exterior. Hope you enjoy.

Rhett Bomar

The Giants take a chance on Bomar in the fifth round. The Sam Houston State product has all of the tools to develop into a solid pro quarterback and could be a promising developmental prospect and a decent backup for Eli Manning. Combine Results: Height: 6'2" Weight: 225 40 Yard Dash : 4.82 seconds Bench Press : 25.0 reps Broad Jump : 106.0 inches 3 Cone Drill : 6.91 seconds 20 Yard Shuttle : 4.06 seconds
Could be a real good pick if Rhett can keep it together. He'll bond with the Rookie wr's Nicks and Barden, te Beckum and rb Bown at 2009 training camp which should improve his ability to make the team and produce at QB if needed this season for some crazy reason. Any other insight on this kid Giant fans?

If he clears waivers he'll be a practice player. Final cuts today, two days to clear waivers before being resigned if not claimed on waivers by other teams.

Giants may have too may WR's as our other discussion thread indicates, however, might they also not have enough quality, win-a-NFL-game, type QB's on their 2009 roster at the current moment?
This Ranking has them #17 overall: http://www.comcast.net/slideshow/sports-qbrankings/17/
Hmm, QB is the most important position on the field and the NY Giants in this ranking are in the bottom 50% of the NFL. Eli Manning is clearly in his prime. David Carr never has produced much as a FT starter. Rhett Bomar is a Rookie (Houston & Baltimore sure had nice Rookie QB seasons last year with 1st rd draft picks) and Andre Woodson, while a good change of pace QB should he become needed, was not good enough to hold down the Giants 3rd QB position by himself, thus they drafted Bomar for protection and competition.
Clearly, it's early, all the Quarterbacks need more reps with the Kids & lots of things will happen before the 1st game. But should Eli go down for a small or large amount of time, what is the contingency plan in these cases. Do they ride Carr, develop Rhett or change it all up with Ware? Do the Giants have an issue at the most critical position in football compared to the rest of the league? Does this put them in a situation where there's not enough QB's???

As time goes by den, the more I do not regret sharing my Mike Jackson 8 track tapes with you. It seems to have cemented our friendship in a unique way. (no I will not go bike riding with you!) LOL I think to really drive home your last point, imagine Eli having been drafted by the expansion offenseive line-less Houston Texans or the cowardly Lions back in 2004; anyone wanna surmise where Manning might be this day? We KNOW he'd be w/o the RING, the question for me is would his lovely wife be w/o one too; would Abby still have found Manning attractive; Eli being mangled and all.........so the only ring we'd be talking about perhaps is the ring-ing in EM's ears then! Who said life is fair? "Sometimes your the statue/other times the pigeon"........... look there goes david and joey $h!++ing on that guy's windshield AGAIN...............ps Mr Roble sir, did you notice where Rothlisberger & Rivers were on that comcast list? hmmmm......you know I'm bad, I'm bad, you know I'm really bad...la la la la

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed that sometimes the clock almost runs out before eEli calls the play. I understand that this could be due to the coaches getting plays to Eli on time but I think that this although not a grave problem needs to be discussed. I was just interested in other opinions.

my biggest thing with the clock counting down is...it gives the defense extra time to adjust as to whet lineup the Gmen are in.....and call a late blitz or coverage....I would love the O to get to the line with 10 12 secnds left so they can snap before the clock is about to run out
a good way to do this is with scripted plays and let Eli make the call at the line....like the Bills did with Jim Kelly back in the early 90's
