In light of the spanking we got Sunday, look for NYG to make a move today and get some help at safety position. CC Brown is suspect at best and I'd be surprised if Big Blue does not make a 911 move today in attempts to sure up the secondary.

We've all heard the old saying, if " IFS and BUTS were candy and nuts, what a Merry Christmas it will be", but IF #4 has a healthy wing and IF he comes back to play in a system he is VERY familiar with and IF Percy Harvin becomes 75% the NFL player he was @ UF and IF their 6th Rank defense in total yardage given up in 2008 improves even a little bit, can this 2009 team that beat our Big Blue Bunch in Game #16 and went on to play Philly pretty tough in divisional round, be the favorite to represent the NFC in Miami? BUT what if the soon to be 40 QB gets injured.....fair question BUT Jackson and Rosenfeld would be pretty good b/up's no? Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin & Brett Favre...........what's the jury saying out there? Let the head BUTTING begin!!

Trash Talking is an issue for the Giants and the entire NFL:
http://history.giants.com/video/7553424/Fired+Up%3A+Trash+talking Seems like Brandon Jacobs wants to go off on someone but has held himself back this year, well done. Doesn't it also seem like in any NFL game that when a pass is caught or falls incomplete, the DB's say things to the WR's and vice-versa just about every play. You can only imagine what they say to each other under those fake smiles. Not all the players are friends off-the-field, although, much more so than in the not too distant NFL past. You really have to respect how Walter Payton, Barry Sanders and Eli Manning set an example for others how not to trash talk, get along with others and be positive. Nice to see that the Giants have a nice handle on this too, all the way up to Coach Coughlin. AP, please lead more with your play (Cowboys 378 total yards, 251 rushing) not your bark... Orthodontist, orthodintist, orthodontist...sorry Strahan, it's just fun to tease you! Remember, Sticks and Stones will Break your Bones but Names will Never Hurt You, if only...

Wonderful NFL Films clip that try's to answer where the word "Hut" came out of "Hike?":
http://history.giants.com/video/7432083/NFL+Films+Presents%3A+Hut%21 Justin Tuck is right, 'Bacon' wouldn't work, lol. Coach Fisher has a fascinating sports technology perspective about high and low frequency noises (I think this is it!) Coach Shula said it's probably because it's one less letter and made it easier to say your cadence. Coach Coughlin is probably right though, it came from the military and marching. Crazy how many modern day NFL Coaches and players did not know. Even sayin "Go" or nothing at all (Silent Snap) works today. So how did Eli and the NY Giants come up with saying "Omaha" to snap the ball? Omaha sounds high-frequency. Hut, two, three, four... |

With the 1st 2009 game today, these are the new NFL Rules for the 2009 Season by Mr. Batch:
http://history.giants.com/video/7421096/NFL+new+rules Very well done Mr. Batch! Way to go Green and get outside. I liked ALL your points in this clip. The wedge bunch is gone on kick returns. Wonder if that rule will stick. Does that change make Special Teams more or less than 1/3 of the team now? Probably more because it will be easier to go the distance for 6. The new Hochuli rule where anything QB related is reviewable had to happen. It will be hard for refs to call the 'shoulder shiver' but safety first, no doubt about it. Thanks for these needed changes NFL. Might want to reconsider the overtime coin toss rule (arbitrary) and whether there is a need (other than financial) for preseason games. [One Broadcast suggestion and soccer (go Celtic) has this nailed. Watch International soccer (World Cup) on TV and they give you 'instant replays' immediately during the flow of the game. It could be a goal or a slide tackle but you get to see it again and again from many camera angles and you miss zero of the real game. Soccer is amazing how they blend replay and the real game especially considering they are not a 100% set-play sport as football is. The Giants and NFL football broadcasts should operate the same way. Show WAY more replays of every big play, controversial or not, as soon as possible. Why play dead football air time or wait and possibly not show any instant replays? Instant replays rock and help keep the fans focused. Love how the US Open in tennis does this too. Unless a team is running a no-huddle offense it should be easy to show several replays before the next play, every down. The players are such strong and super athletes, plus the play happens so fast that as a result, NFL fans want to see more replays of each play or call during the entire broadcast.] Go Giants! |

John Madden has announced enough NY Giants Football games let's go ahead and honor him here!
"There is one thing football fans have agreed on for decades: They all love John Madden," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement released by the league. "John was a Hall of Fame coach before becoming one of the most-celebrated personalities in sports. He had an incredible talent for explaining the game in an unpretentious way that made it more understandable and fun. "John's respect and passion for the game always stood out. He was the ultimate football fan who also happened to be an extraordinarily talented coach and broadcaster." Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You'll be missed John Madden and never forgotten by NY Giant fans!!

The NFL expanded the "Rooney Rule" and now require teams to interview at least one minority candidate for its senior Operations jobs. This rule will not apply to owners or a member of their family or where a pre-existing Promotion of a Staff person to a new position is in place. There are 5 minorities in top Executive positions including: NY Giants Jerry Reese, Rod Graves (Arizona) Martin Mayhew (Detroit) Ozzie Newsome (Baltimore) and Rick Smith (Houston.) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed all 32 NFL teams that they are strongly urged to include minority candidates for all open positions.
This is another nice reason to respect and like the NY Giants, they care! As the NFL's oldest franchise it makes sense that the Giants pioneer the way each season with change for the good!! |

I'd like to hear NYG fans' opinions on this. Here's what I'm looking for. The RB had to play at least 5 yrs in the NFL. Please base your list & opinions as objectively as humanly possible. (Rob Carpenter does not belong on this list Gmen friends LOL) Things to consider: RB's ability no matter what team he would have played for, would he have been great? The team and O line he did play for. Yards per carry. Yards per game. All Pro nominations. HOF consideration. Please add anything you feel is pertinent to your selection. This should be interesting..................THEY'RE OFF AND "RUNNING" I will only reveal my #1 pick and why on this post and list the remaining 9 at a later date. #1 JIM BROWN. I was only 4 years old when he retired to do a movie with the sexy Racquel Welch, but when you ask fans that have watched football for at least 60 years, they ALL say JB was the best RB ever; some will add football player to their statement. It is with a reverence that his name is used. Some quick stats if that is not enough.....5.2 yards per carry lifetime. Averaged 104 yds RUSHING per game, Averaged 125+ yards from scrimmage per game. Brown accompished these feats despite the fact that he wore an X on his back and was the focal point of every defense he played against. Amazing to me!

Wow, what a game and performance by a QB that should still be wearing BLUE imo. Having only played 9 games in a Giant uniform and being benched with a 5-4 record and a QB rating of 86, for our current superstar, he cannot really be considered in our debate about the best NYG QB of all time, but if he was, he'd probably get my vote. He is such a competitor and to think he started the NFL so late in life. He makes everyone around him believe they can win and when you need a clutch throw, you can count on KW to make it! Who would have thought the 9-7 Cards would win the NFC Championship? Two thoughts: In light of today's game how good did NYG defense play last week vs. birds? & If Arizona wins SB XLIII & Kurt plays well, he goes to Hall of Fame before 2020. I wish him and our old divisional doormats GOOD LUCK; go and represent our conference well!!!!
