Only fitting on the last day of the 1st decade of the new millenium, to do our ALL DECADE TEAM. Aware that this will take some time; more for us with CRS (can't remember @#$%) LOL
I'll begin with Eli getting the slight nod over Kerry Collins @ QB even though Manning played on much better teams across the board. Manning played well in SB42, Kerry....well, you get the point! Tiki Barber @ RB, Finn @ FB, WR's: Toomer, Burress, Smith. TE's Shockey & Boss. KR's Dixon & Hixon P: Feagles (duh) K: Feely DE's Strahan Umenyoira, LB'ers Armstead, Barrow, D. Jones/A.Pierce tied. More later! Let's get it started.........

WR Steve Smith is having most prolific season by a wide receiver in the 85 years of Giants existence. His seven catches last game gave him 85 for the season so far. He passed Amani Toomer (82) for most catches in a season in Giants history. His 85 catches leaves him tied for first in the NFC and fourth in the NFL. Smith needs 15 catches over next three games to surpass 100 for the season, a mark never reached in team history. Smith is averaging 6.5 (those half catches will kill you!)catches a game. He has 5 TD's so far this season. He has over 13 weeks amassed 1053 receiving yds this season. The old single season mark is held by Toomer with 1343, 2002. Smith could surpass that mark as well.

I was 9 yrs old in 1962. My Uncle Joe, was the sportswear buyer for Lane Bryant stores and & one of his vendors was a manufacturer from Green Bay. This was when things were still made in America & didn't need to carry a flag with "Made in the USA" on it as if it was a novelty. The gent from Green Bay was able to secure 2 tix for my dad & his brother, my Uncle Jack, to attend the NFL Championship.I remember going with my Dad & Uncle Howie in his brown Ford Falcon to the New Yorker Hotel to pick up the tix We were sent to a room where a few of the Packers were laying on the beds, sitting in chairs, talking & watching B&W TV.They got me a Packers yearbook, I collected some autographs
Sunday we drove to Flushing, where my Dad's brother Jack lived. It was cold.My Mom, my4 yr old brother Scott & I stayed at Uncle Jack's & Aunt Niece's place while my Dad & his brother climbed into Uncle Jack's black Oldsmobile Rocket 88 for the trip to Yankee Stadium.Games were "Blacked-Out" in those days, so if you didn't go to Connecticut or central Jersey you couldn't watch it, so I had to listen on the yellowish bakelite GE radio atop the fridge there in Flushing, Queens, NY and it's my first actual recollection of the Jints breaking my heart. I can recall parking by Nathan's in Coney Island we lived in Sheepshead Bay where Coach Lombardi grew up & listening to Marty Glickman& Al DeRoggattis call the game. Hotdogs were a quarter & french fries went for 15 cents They had this great pineapple drink then that they don't have anymore. he burgers with onions from the griddle. I can still here my Dad say "Ya' want somethin' ?" as he stepped from the car Marlboro firmly clenched between his lips.Even as I write this I can recall the Nathan'sFamous tinged aroma of Dad's 1961 cherry wood Bonneville as we listened to those games |

Remember how excited you were when you heard the words, "With their 1st pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, the NY Giants select TE Jeremy Shockey from the University of Miami". I know I was. 8 years later, the surfer looking, high energy, mad-man will present a serious mismatch problem for Big Blue D. Where is Michael Boley when you need him? Shockey is currently the leading receiver in Nawlens high octane offense and his speed creates a major problem for us. Blackburn is a beast, and is physical enough to play with JS, however, he does not possess the foot speed necessary to "chase" him in coverage. Danny Clark may be faster, but still not quick enough imo. We will need to jam, jam, jam him off the LOS all night and secondary must tackle well after a reception if we are to "contain" him at all. Ya think Shockey will be up for this game, just a little bit? Of course, if Tuck, Kiwi, Osi, "Batman"(Cofield) & Robbins and Rocky VII are in Drew's facemask all night, it will be a "breeze" now won't it?. NYG, NYG!!!

Who are some of the past Giant draft picks or free agents that played their College Football in the Ivy League since 1925? |

Sure would be nice for all the NY Giants fans, players and staff, both young and old, to watch the team earn a big victory in Dallas on Sunday and add more winning history to the Big Blue lore. Since 1925, all the way to 2009, the Giants have earned being the 'Pride' of the NFL... |

September 11, 2009 (tomorrow) is eight years after the 9/11 attacks.
The New York Giants and the NFL will always remember and are helping people to move forward: http://history.giants.com/video/7421391/Former+NFL+Star+Leads+Drive+for+9%2F11+Memorial and, http://history.giants.com/video/6128501/a+Journey+For+9%2F11 and, http://history.giants.com/video/7421580/Former+Giant+Walks+Across+the+U.S.A.+for+9%2F11+Rescue+Workers Take some moments on Saturday to reflect on 9/11 and then clear your mind by early Sunday for the Redskins game, you know any Giant fans who perished in this tragedy would want it that way... |

The Phil McConkey Giants story is an amazing part of Giants History!:
http://history.giants.com/video/7388903/America%27s+Game+Moment%3A+1986+Giants This guy was a one-man wreaking crew in Super Bowl XXI. Amazing story how Phil came back to the Giants and caught a TD pass from Phil Simms off that deflection by TE Mark Bavaro! Served 4 yrs in the Navy before he signed with the Giants as a 27 yr old Rookie.

Did not know about Cal until uncovering a NY Giants related video clip cartoon of baseball player Carl Bubble which was made as a parody of Carl Hubble otherwise known as Cal:
http://history.giants.com/video/7297582/Nutty+News In 1927, the NY Giants won their 1st NFL Championship after a trade for Hubble. He earned the NFL Hall of Fame in 1963, congrats. It'd be nice to hear more from Giants fans who know a little something about his game and why the parody was made about Cal, thx.

Let the debate start! I've done the research comparing players from the 30', 50's, 80's, and today. I found very slight difference in the following positions. QB, RB, FB, WR/E on offense. CB, S, on defense. I found the differential for Offensive and Defensive Line to be significant. Linemen in 30's average hgt 6'0 and wgt 220 (starting guard that was 5'9,204). 50's linemen average hgt 6'1 and wgt 240. 80's linemen average hgt 6'3 and average wgt 260. Current Giants team linemen average 6'4 and 290. LB position average in 30's and 50's about same with hgt 6'0 and wgt 220. LB position in 80's average hgt 6'2, wht 230. LB average today is 6'2, 240. IMO linemen (both sides) playing in the 30's could not play those positions now. Offensive linemen in the 50's (maybe R.Brown, but not at Tackle!) could not play those positions now. LB's in the 30's and 50's with a few exceptions (Hein, Huff) could not play those positions now. Size matters! The way he got talked up I thought Steve Owens would be bigger! 5'10, 235.

Does anyone know what the #38 on the back left of the 1986 stand for? The jersey that year had a patch for Spider Lockart. We were watching the 1986 Americas Game and my son ask what it stood for.

ProFootball.Com is reporting that the players union is considering demanding(on Plaxico's behalf) the commissioners office to make a decision on whether or not to suspend Plaxico now has oppossed to waiting for the legal system to run it's course.I see no logical reason why that makes any sense! I also don't think a suspention from the commisioners office is in his future anytime soon.I think the fact that the Giants took the lead and suspended and then released(money lost)his butt will be deemed punishment enough for something inanely stupid not to mention the PR hit! I am quite sure that the union can demand all they want(last I looked this was'nt baseball)and I'm quite sure the commisioners will respond when the dust clears!

According to SI, the NY Giants are ranked number 5 in the NFL over the past Decade. Thanks Den.
1. NE 2. Pittsburgh 3. Indy 4. Philly and 5. New York Giants -Eli Manning and the Giants had arguably the decade's biggest win, beating the undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Regular season: 80-64, .556 Playoff wins/record: 6-5 Super Bowls won/appeared: 1 out of 2 Playoff seasons: 6 Winning seasons: 5 Losing seasons: 3 -The Giants present us with our first real judgment call, because No. 6 Baltimore owns three more regular-season wins, not to mention that Super Bowl XXXV lambasting of New York in January 2001. But we're giving a slight nod to the Giants based on their two Super Bowl trips this decade, and that monumental upset of New England two years ago. New York also has one more playoff season than the Ravens (six to five), albeit one of them was of the cheapie, 8-8 variety. Everyone of these teams and Baltimore at #6 are looking tough again going into 2009. Can the Giants leapfrog up the rankings past the Eagles this year and also past Peyton Manning and the Colts? Or, might they drop because the Ravens will have a better overall year. Either way, it's been a real nice decade New York Giants!! What say ye?
